Ingredients
For one serving of the Tequila Sunrise Cocktail:
-
2 oz Tequila 🍸 (preferably silver/blanco for clarity and clean flavor)
-
4 oz Fresh Orange Juice 🍊 (fresh-squeezed for best results)
-
½ oz Grenadine Syrup 🍒 (or to taste)
-
Ice Cubes ❄️
-
Orange Slice and Maraschino Cherry 🍊🍒 (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Glass
Fill a highball or Collins glass with fresh ice cubes. The ice not only keeps the drink chilled but also helps in the layering process.
Step 2: Pour the Tequila
Add 2 oz of tequila directly over the ice. Opt for a high-quality silver or blanco tequila, as its clean, crisp taste complements the citrus and syrup.
Step 3: Add Orange Juice
Pour 4 oz of orange juice gently into the glass over the tequila. Using fresh-squeezed juice will enhance the natural sweetness and brightness of the drink.
Step 4: Add the Grenadine
Slowly pour ½ oz of grenadine into the glass. The syrup will sink to the bottom and slowly rise through the drink, creating the signature gradient “sunrise” effect.
Step 5: Garnish
Top your cocktail with a slice of orange on the rim and a maraschino cherry. If you want to get extra fancy, skewer the cherry and orange slice together for a classic tropical look.
Step 6: Serve Without Stirring
The beauty of the Tequila Sunrise lies in its layered look. Serve the drink as-is and let the drinker gently stir if desired before sipping.
Notes
The Tequila Sunrise is a drink that’s all about timing and technique—not in making it, but in enjoying it. Because the grenadine naturally blends upward, the most vibrant visual moment is right after it’s poured. Encourage guests to admire the cocktail before sipping, or even better, serve it with a stirring straw so they can mix it themselves to experience the transformation.
