Snowflake Margarita Recipe

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 5 min

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila

  • 1 oz orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)

  • 1 oz cream of coconut (such as Coco Lopez)

  • 1 oz fresh lime juice

  • ½ oz simple syrup (adjust to taste)

  • Ice cubes

  • Shredded coconut or coarse sugar (for rimming)

  • Lime wheel or coconut flakes (for garnish)
    Optional Add-ins:

  • ½ oz white crème de cacao (for a dessert-style twist)

  • 1 oz coconut milk (for a lighter, milkier version)

  • Edible shimmer or silver sugar for a snowy finish

Instructions

Preparation Prepare your glass

Step 1: Rim the glass
On a small plate, pour a shallow layer of simple syrup or lime juice. On a second plate, spread out shredded coconut or coarse sugar. Dip the rim of your margarita glass in the syrup, then into the coconut or sugar to coat. Set aside or chill in the freezer for a frosted look.

Mix the cocktail

Step 2: Add ingredients to shaker
In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz silver tequila, 1 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz cream of coconut, 1 oz lime juice, and ½ oz simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice to the top.
Step 3: Shake until chilled
Seal and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds. The goal is to chill the ingredients thoroughly while blending the cream of coconut into a smooth, consistent texture.

Strain and garnish

Step 4: Pour into prepared glass
Strain the margarita into your prepared glass, either straight up or over fresh ice. The color should be an opaque, frosty white.
Step 5: Add garnish
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or float it in the drink. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of coconut flakes or shimmer dust over the top for a snowflake-like effect.

Notes

  • Use cream of coconut, not coconut milk or coconut cream—cream of coconut is sweetened and blends best.

  • Fresh lime juice makes a noticeable difference in brightness and balance.

  • Adjust sweetness to taste with simple syrup or agave.

  • Shake well to fully incorporate the cream of coconut—it can separate if not chilled enough.

  • Store cream of coconut in the fridge after opening and stir before using.
