Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 bag (10 oz) mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Red and yellow food coloring (or orange, if available)
  • Mini pretzel sticks
  • Green decorating icing
  • Cooking spray or butter for greasing

Instructions

Step 1: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.

Step 2: Remove the pan from heat. To achieve a pumpkin color, add red and yellow food coloring to the marshmallow mixture—about three drops of red for every four drops of yellow. Mix thoroughly until the color is uniform.

Step 3: Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Stir until the cereal is well coated with the marshmallow mix.

Step 4: Grease your hands with cooking spray or butter. Scoop a portion of the Rice Krispie mixture and form it into a ball shape. Continue until all the mixture is used.

Step 5: Insert a mini pretzel stick at the top of each ball to mimic a pumpkin stem.

Variation:

  • Chocolate Chips: Add a cup of mini chocolate chips to the Rice Krispie mixture for a chocolatey twist.
  • Cinnamon Spice: Mix in a teaspoon of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg with the marshmallows to create a spiced pumpkin version.

Notes

Work quickly when shaping the pumpkins, as the mixture becomes stickier and harder to manage as it cools.

Serving Suggestions:

Arrange the Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins on a platter decorated with fake autumn leaves for a festive display.

Tips:

  • Wet your hands with water periodically to prevent the mixture from sticking too much when shaping the pumpkins.
  • Use a bit of green icing to draw leaves around the pretzel stem for a more decorative effect.
