Pear and Gorgonzola Cheese on Toasted Walnut Bread

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 20min

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

For the Toast:
  • 1 small loaf of walnut bread (or a walnut sourdough)
  • 2 ripe pears, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, roughly chopped and toasted
  • Fresh arugula or microgreens (optional for garnish)
  • Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the walnut bread into 1/2-inch thick slices. You should have about 6-8 slices, depending on the size of your loaf.

Step 2:
Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and lightly drizzle them with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the bread is golden and toasted. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Step 3:
While the bread is toasting, thinly slice the pears. It’s best to leave the skin on for texture and color. Ensure the slices are uniform for even layering on the toast.

Step 4:
Crumble the Gorgonzola cheese and set it aside. Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.

Step 5:
Assemble the toast. Lay a few pear slices on each slice of toasted walnut bread. Top with a generous amount of crumbled Gorgonzola cheese.

Step 6:
Drizzle each toast with honey, allowing the sweetness to complement the sharpness of the Gorgonzola and the pears.

Step 7:
Finish by sprinkling the toasted walnuts on top of each slice. If you’re using arugula or microgreens, add a small handful on top of each toast for a peppery contrast and added visual appeal.

Step 8:
Serve immediately while the bread is warm and the cheese is slightly softened. Enjoy this simple yet refined dish as an appetizer, snack, or light lunch.

Notes

  • Choose a firm, ripe pear variety such as Bosc or Anjou for the best texture and sweetness.
  • Be careful not to over-toast the bread. You want it crisp but still chewy in the center for the perfect texture contrast.
  • Gorgonzola dolce is a creamier, milder variety of blue cheese that works particularly well for those who prefer less intense flavors.
