Ingredients
-
2 oz black vodka (or regular vodka with activated charcoal)
-
1 oz blackberry liqueur (such as crème de mûre)
-
1 oz fresh lemon juice
-
½ oz simple syrup (or honey for a natural option)
-
2 oz tonic water or club soda
-
Ice cubes
-
Edible glitter (optional, for a cosmic shimmer)
-
Blackberries & lemon twist for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Glass
-
Begin by chilling your cocktail glass. Place it in the freezer for about 10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prep the drink.
-
If using edible glitter, lightly dust the interior of the glass or swirl some into your finished drink for a starlit shimmer.
2. Mix the Base
-
In a cocktail shaker, combine the black vodka, blackberry liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
-
Fill the shaker with ice, seal tightly, and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and frothy.
3. Strain and Sparkle
-
Discard any ice from your chilled glass.
-
Strain the contents of the shaker into the glass, either straight-up in a coupe or over fresh ice in a rocks or highball glass.
4. Add Fizz
-
Gently top the drink with tonic water or club soda, depending on your preference. Tonic will add a slightly bitter note that complements the black vodka and berries, while soda keeps things clean and crisp.
-
Stir lightly just to combine without flattening the fizz.
5. Garnish
-
Garnish with a few blackberries floated on top or speared onto a cocktail pick.
-
Add a lemon twist for a burst of citrus aroma.
-
Optional: A sprinkle of edible glitter gives the drink a galactic shimmer that glows under candlelight or bar lighting.
6. Serve and Sip
-
Serve immediately and enjoy the mysterious beauty and bold flavor of your Midnight Eclipse Elixir.
Notes
Black vodka is a dramatic spirit that gets its hue from additives like black catechu or food-grade charcoal. If you can’t find it, simply add a pinch of activated charcoal to clear vodka to achieve a similar effect. Just be aware: charcoal can absorb some medications, so it’s best avoided if you’re on prescriptions. When using charcoal, stir rather than shake to avoid cloudiness and maximize the visual impact.
