Malibu Rainbow Breeze Recipe

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 10 min

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Malibu coconut rum

  • 1 oz grenadine (for the red layer)

  • 1 oz orange juice (for the orange layer)

  • 1 oz pineapple juice (for the yellow layer)

  • 1 oz blue curaçao (for the blue layer)

  • 1 oz coconut cream (for the white layer)

  • Ice cubes

Garnish (optional)

  • Pineapple slice

  • Orange wedge

  • Maraschino cherry

  • Fresh mint

  • Paper umbrella

Instructions

Preparation

Step 1: Fill the glass with ice
Use a tall clear glass like a hurricane or highball to show off the rainbow effect. Fill it with ice all the way to the top.

Step 2: Add grenadine
Pour 1 oz of grenadine directly into the bottom of the glass. Its density makes it settle quickly as the base red layer.

Step 3: Layer orange juice
Using the back of a spoon or pouring slowly down the side of the glass, gently add 1 oz of orange juice over the grenadine. It should float above the red layer.

Step 4: Add pineapple juice
Repeat the layering method with 1 oz of pineapple juice. Pour slowly for clean separation to create the yellow layer.

Step 5: Add blue curaçao and Malibu
In a shaker, combine 1 oz Malibu rum and 1 oz blue curaçao with a small amount of ice. Shake briefly to chill. Gently layer this mixture above the juices—it may settle in between depending on density but will give that striking teal-blue layer.

Step 6: Top with coconut cream
Gently pour 1 oz of coconut cream on top for a creamy white cap. For smoother flow, slightly warm or shake the cream with a bit of water first.

Step 7: Garnish and serve
Top with a pineapple wedge, orange slice, cherry, and a sprig of mint or umbrella. Serve with a straw and enjoy the tropical rainbow.

Notes

  • Layering works best when each ingredient has a different density—grenadine is heaviest, cream is lightest

  • Use the back of a spoon or a slow pour spout for the best results

  • Coconut cream should be pourable—not too thick—or it won’t layer properly

  • Adjust the color contrast by using less or more of each juice depending on how bold you want each layer

  • Chill all liquids before layering for crisper, longer-lasting colors
