Lemonade Puppy Chow

Lemonade Puppy Chow

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 9 cups Chex cereal (rice or corn)
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup lemonade drink mix (like Kool-Aid)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup lemon-flavored candies (like Lemonheads or sour lemon drops) optional for garnish

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1:

Place the Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl. You want to use a bowl big enough for mixing without spilling any cereal.

Step 2:

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and butter. Microwave the mixture in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat it, as white chocolate can scorch easily.

Step 3:

Once the white chocolate and butter are melted, stir in the lemonade drink mix and unsweetened lemon juice. Mix until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture has a smooth, creamy texture. The combination of the drink mix and lemon juice will give this treat its signature lemonade flavor.

Step 4:

Pour the melted chocolate and lemon mixture over the Chex cereal. Gently stir until all of the cereal pieces are evenly coated. It’s important to stir slowly to avoid breaking the cereal.

Step 5:

Transfer the coated cereal to a large resealable plastic bag. Add the powdered sugar to the bag, seal it tightly, and shake it until all the cereal pieces are coated in the sugar. This gives the snack its iconic powdered, sweet exterior.

Step 6:

(Optional) For an extra lemony touch, sprinkle in some lemon-flavored candies like Lemonheads or sour lemon drops. These candies will add a fun pop of color and flavor to your puppy chow.

Step 7:

Spread the coated cereal on a baking sheet to allow it to cool and harden. Once fully cooled, transfer to a serving bowl or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Be cautious when microwaving the white chocolate chips. White chocolate tends to burn quickly if overheated. Stir frequently and melt in small intervals to avoid any scorching.
  • To prevent the cereal from becoming soggy, make sure you don’t overuse the lemon juice. The small amount in the recipe is perfect for giving a tangy taste without affecting the crunch.
