Scale
Ingredients:
- 1 pound white fish fillets (e.g., cod, snapper, or tilapia)
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Juice of 1 lime
- Zest of 1 lime
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 red chili, thinly sliced (optional)
- Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preparation:
Step 1: Prepare the Steaming Setup
- Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
- Place a steaming basket or rack over the pot, ensuring it sits securely without touching the water.
Step 2: Season the Fish
- Lightly season the fish fillets on both sides with salt and pepper.
- Place the seasoned fillets on a heatproof plate that fits comfortably inside the steaming basket.
Step 3: Add Aromatics
- Evenly scatter the thinly sliced ginger and minced garlic over the fish fillets, ensuring the flavors are distributed.
Step 4: Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, and lime zest until well combined.
- Pour this sauce mixture evenly over the fish, allowing it to seep into the fillets.
Step 5: Steam the Fish
- Carefully place the prepared plate into the steaming basket.
- Cover the pot with a lid and steam the fish for 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
- Once cooked, remove the plate carefully from the steamer using heatproof gloves or tongs.
- Garnish the fish with sliced green onions, red chili slices (if using), and a generous sprinkle of fresh cilantro leaves.
- Serve immediately with steamed rice or fresh vegetables for a complete and satisfying meal.
Notes
COOKING Note:
- Ensure the steaming basket is above the waterline to prevent water from touching the fish.
- Do not overcook; the fish should remain tender and flaky. Use a fork to test for doneness.
