Exotic Steamed Fish with Ginger and Lime

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound white fish fillets (e.g., cod, snapper, or tilapia)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 red chili, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1: Prepare the Steaming Setup

  • Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
  • Place a steaming basket or rack over the pot, ensuring it sits securely without touching the water.

 Step 2: Season the Fish

  • Lightly season the fish fillets on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Place the seasoned fillets on a heatproof plate that fits comfortably inside the steaming basket.

 Step 3: Add Aromatics

  • Evenly scatter the thinly sliced ginger and minced garlic over the fish fillets, ensuring the flavors are distributed.

 Step 4: Prepare the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, and lime zest until well combined.
  • Pour this sauce mixture evenly over the fish, allowing it to seep into the fillets.

 Step 5: Steam the Fish

  • Carefully place the prepared plate into the steaming basket.
  • Cover the pot with a lid and steam the fish for 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes opaque and flakes easily with a fork.

 Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  • Once cooked, remove the plate carefully from the steamer using heatproof gloves or tongs.
  • Garnish the fish with sliced green onions, red chili slices (if using), and a generous sprinkle of fresh cilantro leaves.
  • Serve immediately with steamed rice or fresh vegetables for a complete and satisfying meal.

Notes

COOKING Note:

  • Ensure the steaming basket is above the waterline to prevent water from touching the fish.
  • Do not overcook; the fish should remain tender and flaky. Use a fork to test for doneness.
