ngredients (Makes 1 medium batch — ideal for 2–4 kids)
- 1 cup (150 g) all-purpose (plain) flour
- ½ cup (125 g) salt
- 1 tbsp cream of tartar
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
- 1 cup (250 mL) water
- 1 cup fresh dandelion petals (washed and dried)
- Optional: A few drops of lemon essential oil or vanilla extract (for scent)
- Optional: Natural yellow food colouring (for stronger colour)
Instructions
Step-by-Step Preparation
1: Gather Your Dandelions
- Pick about 1 cup of fresh dandelion flowers from a clean, pesticide-free area.
- Rinse the flowers gently in cool water to remove dirt or insects.
- Pat dry with a clean towel.
- Carefully pull the yellow petals away from the green bases — you only want the petals for this dough.
Tip: The fresher and brighter the petals, the more beautiful the final dough colour will be!
2: Prepare the Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together:
- 1 cup flour
- ½ cup salt
- 1 tbsp cream of tartar
- Stir in the fresh dandelion petals, distributing them evenly through the dry mix.
3: Mix the Wet Ingredients
- In a medium saucepan, combine:
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
- Optional: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil or vanilla extract for a delightful scent.
- Optional: Add a few drops of natural yellow food colouring if you want a stronger golden hue.
4: Combine and Cook
- Gradually add the dry mixture into the saucepan with the wet ingredients.
- Stir constantly over low to medium heat.
- As you stir, the dough will start to thicken and clump together.
- Keep stirring until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
5: Cool and Knead
- Transfer the warm dough onto a clean surface.
- Allow to cool slightly until comfortable to handle.
- Knead the dough for 3–5 minutes until it becomes smooth, soft, and elastic.
- If it feels sticky, sprinkle with a little extra flour during kneading.
